FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything firefighters, chief officers and the public most often ask about the Firefighter Rescues Ontario project.

What is Firefighter Rescues Ontario?

Firefighter Rescues Ontario (FFRO) is a volunteer research and educational collective dedicated to analyzing every civilian rescue and fatality in Ontario structure fires. Our goal is to improve fireground outcomes through evidence-based training and tactics.

Who runs the project?

FFRO is frontline-led, a volunteer team of firefighters, chief officers, researchers and industry professionals from across Ontario. Meet them on The Team page.

How do I submit a rescue?

Use our rescue submission form. Every entry is reviewed and verified before being added to the dataset. If you have supporting incident reports or media, you can attach them or follow up via the Contact page.

Is the data anonymized?

Yes. Personally identifying information about victims, firefighters and department members is removed before any data is published or shared. Our published dataset focuses on tactics, outcomes and decision points, not individuals.

Can my department partner with FFRO?

Absolutely. We actively partner with Ontario departments of every size. Reach out through the Contact page and we'll put you in touch with a team member who can scope a data-sharing or training arrangement.

Do you offer training sessions?

Yes. Our instructors deliver evidence-based sessions on search operations, victim-centered decision making and interpreting rescue data. Upcoming events are posted on the Training page and announced on our social channels.

How is FFRO funded?

FFRO is a volunteer project. We are supported by private sponsors, including Fire Humor Company, True North F.O.O.L.S. and Hamilton Custom Hats, and by proceeds from decal sales through our Support the Mission page. No public funds are used.

Can I use FFRO data in my own research or training?

Yes, with attribution. Email us through the Contact page with a short description of your intended use. We're happy to collaborate with academics, journalists and training divisions.
